While Amritsar is best known for its Sikhs, it also has a large Muslim population, many of whom worship at Khairuddin Mosque. This mosque, built some 150 years ago by Muhammad Khairuddin, is a stunning specimen of Islamic architecture. Three domes and four minarets grace the imposing green-and-white tower, which also boasts beautiful artwork on its walls.
Khairuddin Mosque is more than just a gorgeous sight; it also plays an important historical part in India’s struggle for independence. This is where Shah Attaullah Bukhari, the Tootie-e-Hind, exhorted the Indian people to fight back against the British occupiers.
Katra Sher Singh, Katra Ahluwalia, Amritsar is the address.
