Knowing about them in detail will also allow you to handle them better. As the mechanism is not too complicated for fishing poles, you perform small fixings with the knowledge.
Finally, I will help you choose the right fishing rod and reel. Let’s say you are looking up the best reels for crankbaits. But you don’t know how to select one.
Here, I will be helping you with all the details for fishing rods and reels. Let’s dive in!
What is a fishing rod?
It’s a long and flexible stick attached to a handle. Fishing rods have guides to carry the fishing line. Actually, a fishing rod consists of six parts- butt, handle, reel seat, blank, line guides, and the tip-top.
A fishing rod can be 2 to 50 feet long. The traditional fishing rods are created from wood and bamboo. Nowadays, the fishing rods we use are mostly made from carbon fibre, fibreglass, or graphite fibre.
The function of a fishing rod
With the help of a fishing rod, you cast the fishing line as far as you need. The fishing line is carried through from the beginning to the end of a fishing rod.
I already mentioned that fishing rods have fishing line guides. This arrangement confirms casting accuracy. And allow you to reel more efficiently and easily.

Which one should you select?
You will hear people debating over which one is the best fishing rod. In fact, it’s not about selecting the BEST one. It’s about finding a SUITABLE fishing rod.
Keeping that in mind, the best fishing rod would be a suitable fishing rod! When selecting a fishing rod, you need to consider two facts. What kind of fish will you be catching? And What techniques are you going to use to catch those fish?
What is a reel?
A reel is a tool that contains a crank, a handle for spinning the crank, and a spool of thread winded on it. Thread is called fishing line in angling terminology.
A reel consists of six parts- the body, reel handle, reel spool, drag adjustment, bail, and anti-reverse switch.
The body is the main part of a reel that contains a few other parts. A reel can be made of graphite or aluminum. Furthermore, the body has three different parts- a support arm, a foot linked with a foot, and a gearbox housing.
And the reel handle will be either t-shaped or round. This part gives you the necessary power to drag a fish out of the water. Since it takes care of the heavy work, it must be comfortable enough to hold.
The spool contains the fishing line. And it could be made of graphite or aluminum. After that, we have a drag adjustment. It actually looks like a knob, and it resides on the top of the reel spool.
Next, we have the bail. It is an opening through which the fishing line starts its course to the tip-top. Finally, the anti-reverse switch- occupies the drag adjustment and helps it go forward. When the anti-reverse switch is off, it pulls the fishing line backward.
The function of a reel
The reel allows you to through a fishing line far and reverses the casting when you reel in. And, this is rather a collection task. The handle, spool, bail, and anti-reverse – work together to cast a fishing line – enabling the anglers to reverse wind the spool to catch a fish.
Different kinds of fishing reel
There are 3 major types of fishing reels:
- Spinning reel
- Spin cast reel
- Baitcasting reel
Which one should you go for?
Just like the fishing rods, there is actually nothing called BEST! Once again, you need to find a suitable reel. Mainly, you need to consider one thing while choosing a reel.
That is – what kind of lure or bait you are casting. For instance, a spinning reel is for smaller and lighter baits/lures. On the other hand, you might want to go through heavier lures/baits. In that case, you will need a baitcasting reel.
